in Nottuln und Havixbeck
An die bedrängten
Menschen in Bethlehem und alle Menschen in Palästina und Israel, die sich nach
Frieden sehnen!
Wir wissen uns mit euch von Herzen verbunden in unserer gemeinsamen Hoffnung, die in Bethlehem geboren wurde. Mit euch teilen wir die Erwartung jenes Friedens, der mit der Geburt Jesu den Menschen dieser Erde zugesagt wurde.
Wir nehmen zugleich Anteil an euren Leiden, eurer Verzweiflung, eurer Trauer in Folge des anhaltenden und eskalierenden gewaltgeladenen Konfliktes in eurem Land. Und wir solidarisieren uns mit eurem gewaltfreien Widerstand gegen die himmelschreienden Ungerechtigkeiten auf Grund der andauernden Besatzung.
An jedem Montag der Woche schließen wir uns mit euch und allen, die für Gerechtigkeit und Frieden eintreten in der Welt zusammen, wenn wir regelmäßig zum Beten, Schweigen und Arbeiten zusammenkommen. Wir sind zwei kleine lokale Friedensgruppen im Nordwesten Deutschlands, die um die globale Dimension ihres Anliegens wissen und sich dafür stark machen nach innen wie nach außen.
Wir danken aufrichtig allen Menschen auf beiden Seiten des Konfliktes, die sich trotz aller Feindbilder und inmitten des wachsenden Hasses für Verständigung einsetzen. Wir möchten sie ermutigen, stets von neuem persönliche Begegnungen mit dem „Feind“ zu wagen, aus der Versöhnung wachsen kann.
Wir vertrauen nicht einem Sieg militärischer Operationen. Für uns gibt es keine guten Gründe für einen Krieg und kein Recht und Gesetz, nach dessen Erfüllung getötet werden müsste. Wir folgen nicht der Aufteilung der Menschen und Völker in Gute und Böse. Unsere Hoffnung gründet nicht auf der Ausrottung des Bösen. Auch erwarten wir die Aufhebung von Unterdrückung und Gewalt nicht von den Machthabern. Wir setzen auf die unerschöpflichen Kräfte in jedem Menschen, die sich aus der Mitte einer jeden Gesellschaft heraus bündeln und erheben, um die Bedingungen für Frieden und Gerechtigkeit zu schaffen.
Wir wünschen euch und uns zu Weihnachten 2003 angesichts so vieler Gewalt und eines drohenden Krieges in eurer Region Momente des Innehaltens und der Erneuerung unserer gemeinsamen Hoffnung auf Frieden.. Geben wir dieser Hoffnung eine Chance zwischen und auf den Trümmern manch gescheiterter Hoffnung:

Christmas
greetings and best wishes for 2003
To
those people in Bethlehem who are suffering persecution and oppression and to
all those in Palestine and Israel who are yearning for peace!
Our
hearts and minds are united with you in the Hope which was born in Bethlehem, a
hope that we all share. Together with you we are expecting that peace which was
promised to the people of this earth at the birth of Jesus.
We
feel deep sympathy for you in your suffering, your despair, your mourning, in
all the consequences of the continuing and at the same time escalating violent
conflict in your country. And we would like to express our solidarity with you
in your non-violent resistance to the outrageous injustices resulting from the
continuing occupation.
With
you and all those who make a stand on the issues of justice and peace in the
world we unite in praying,
observing silence and working when we come together every Monday. We are two
small local peace groups in the north-west of Germany who are aware of the
global dimension of their cause and who are making an effort to support this
cause within and without.
We
express our sincere thanks to all those on either side of the conflict who stand
up for reconciliation in spite of all the "friend-and-foe" thinking
and the growing hatred. We would like to encourage them to try and reach out,
again and again, to the "enemy", thus creating personal encounters
which could eventually result in reconciliation.
We
do not put our trust in a victory achieved by military operations. To us, there
is nothing that justifies war, and there is no law which demands killing as an
act of obedience to it. We do not subscribe to dividing people and nations into
good and evil. Our hope is not based on the extermination of evil. Neither do we
expect those in power to stop oppression and violence. We trust in the abundant
powers inherent in every human being, which are able—in any society—to
combine and to rise in order to create the conditions for peace and justice.
Our
wish for Christmas and the new year 2003: in view of so much violence and
considering the threat of another war in your region, we wish you and ourselves
times of quiet thought which could bring about a revival of our common hope for
peace.
Even
though our hopes have often been smashed to pieces, let us give this hope a
chance!
